Had a great day shopping around Ottawa before my work meetings start tomorrow. It's fun to see what store different cities have. Even the stores I'm used to in my small city have totally different merchandise here.
My big highlight was finding a Yogen Fruz!!! Oh how I love that creamy frozen treat!!! Stay tuned, more to come!

Just got my mitts on some Seche Vite top coat, I know I'm behind the times.
I decided to test drive it with another new nail product:
Venique Nail Lacquer in Biker Couture
I have to say I'm super impressed with them both.
Let's start at the beginning,
this is my favourite base coat:
Super Base by Mavala. Mavala is a Swiss line that produces fabulous hand and nail care products.
This applies easily in one thin coat and by the time you're done applying it the first hand is dry enough for colour. I haven't had any issue with dark colours staining my nails while using this product either.
So, on to Venique Nail Lacquer. This is my first time using Venique and I'm impressed. The best adjective I can come up with is creamy. It's dreamily smooth to apply, self levels like nothing I've ever seen and could easily be worn with just 1 coat. I didn't find it streaky or cloudy at all. Even though it's creamier than OPI, it doesn't have the thick or goopy texture OPI can have. I did two coats of it for this manicure, as I usually do.
Then I applied another product new to me, the afore mentioned Seche Vite Top Coat. A.MAZ.ING!
Seche Vite is french for quick dry and is that ever true. And I'm talking cured, dry all the way through, none of this 'dry to the touch' nonsense. I applied it as directed, letting a bead of product form on the brush and then sweeping that generous coat over my nails. I didn't wait after applying the colour and it didn't smear or streak my nails at all. It advises that you need 2 minutes for it to completely dry all layers of polish. I have to say I was really impressed. I've painted my nails, let them dry for over an hour and still smudged them on something or woken up with sheet marks in them more times than I can say. I'm telling you Seche Vite will not let that happen. I'm amazed and I'm converted.
My one word of caution if you're thinking about trying it is the smell. I've never smelled a stronger, more 'nail polish chemicals' smell in my life. If you have sensitivities to strong smells or prefer not to use strong smelling chemicals I would avoid. And, if you're not put off my strong smelling nail products, I would still recommend using in a well ventilated area.
And now, meet the Dream Team
Mavala Super Base + Venique Nail Lacquer + Seche Vite = Manicure Dream Team
I love the colour; my nails have great, glossy shine; and they feel as smooth as glass.
Easy to apply and a fast, perfect finish...what more could one ask for?

sigh. I love pretty things, don't you?
Very soon the CHANEL Spring Makeup Collection for 2012 will be available at my store. It's called Harmonie De Printemps and is
"an enchanting makeup collection inspired by springtime skies"... it's pretty!
I got the chance to try a few colours the other day to make a video for my store's website and youtube channel. This was my first sit down with the collection and I can't wait to try more of the peachy tones as well as trying a more smokey eye look! I'm sure there will be more videos to come.
For now, enjoy this one!

Are you in Awe of anything?
What brings tears to your eyes and takes your breath away?
What do you call 'AWESOME'?
What makes you stop and consider that there is something bigger than yourself
This year I am looking to be awestruck;
To be in awe of God.
To be still and know
To not seek God for something
To just be in awe of Him
My word for 2012 is AWE.

I love watching red carpet events. I'd rather watch the red carpet than the awards themselves!
My favourite from the night was:
Zooey Deschenel in Prada!
I thought it was fun, very her with a kind of retro vibe, and flattering. It was one of the most memorable dresses of the night and kudos to her for wearing something that obviously made her happy!
For some unknown reason, the Elders of the Internet are withholding all pictures of Emily Blunt in this fabulous Elie Saab gown except this one!
I actually thought she looked lovely walking out to present.
Way to go!
I can't quite decide on Sofia Vergara...
on the one hand she looks fabulous and on the other I feel like I could just snap her like a twig. Don't you just want to pinch her knees and watch her fall over? This Vera Wang dress is a gorgeous colour though.
And now on to the disappointments...
Reese Witherspoon - couldn't walk, she needed help to get up the one step to the etalk! interview booth!! For someone who champions women's empowerment and launched the Women's Empowerment Bracelet for Avon I think wearing a dress (designed by a man *cough*Zac Posen*cough*) that inhibits one's ability to move is disappointing.
How did she sit and breathe all night?!
That aside there's something wonky with the boob area of the dress and, over all, she looks like a vase.
Lea Michelle in Marchesa kinda looked trashy.
I'm just not a fan of the skanky figure skater/JLo MMVAs strategically placed sequins look. I will say this though, she's got a killer smile and rocked the dress with confidence!
Tilda Swinton in in Jill Sander
"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change" pretty much sums up how I feel about Tilda Swinton's fashion choices. Sadly, this is one of the better dresses I've seen her in...although it doesn't take much to improve on a black garbage bag (remember the 2008 Oscars)
Who was on your best dressed list?
Any dresses you couldn't stand?
And, thoughts on Ricky Gervais' suit ?!
It makes me think of Hugh Hefner's silk pajama suits:
see! it totally does, right?!
Best Gervais line of the night:
"Nervous? Don't be. This isn't about you," he said. "Tonight, you get Britain's biggest comedian hosting the world's second biggest award show on America's third biggest network. Oh, sorry, fourth. It's fourth."
Julianne Moore and Rob Lowe with the broken teleprompter
William H. Macy & Felicity Huffman

Excuse my lack of blogging, and for that matter, this lackluster post itself. I just feel 'meh'.
Maybe it's the wind down from the holiday season? I just have no motivation to do anything.
I'm trying not to focus on the blahs, or the 'mean reds' as Holly Golightly would say. I'm trying to focus on the positives: I have an exciting work trip coming up at the end of the month, and just before that I'm spending almost a week with my sister and my cute little nephew!
Maybe I just need some vitamin D and a SAD light; it's been a dreary and surprisingly very rainy winter this year. Next year for Christmas remind me to ask for a time-share in Florida.

I went out shopping with a girlfriend on the 27th and surprisingly our malls were not that busy. We originally just planned on seeing a movie, but then thought we'd try to do an exchange at one store and before we knew it, we were honest-to-goodness shopping ;)
I think my fav post-holiday purchase are my new slippers! My old slippers had a hard plastic bottom and one day I went to put them on and the whole bottom had completely shattered! So, I've been going all winter with no slippers.
I found these babies on sale at sears for 50% off! They are super comfy and easy to just slide on.
I love leopard print, but don't really have a lot in my wardrobe. Just my rainboots and now these!
My second favourite purchase is what my feet are resting on in the above picture. Costco had a set of 2 ottomans on for $39.99!! The best part....
I could fit all our VHS and my Scene It game in the ottoman which freed up tons of space in our bookcase so I finally have a home for my crafty supplies! Such a great purchase!!!
Have you found any great deals or treated yourself to a New Year present?
