Seeing Red

Today was all about red.
I was on the hunt for the perfect red cardigan.  I've been searching since November for one.  There is none to be found in the uptown core of my city.  Ideally I want one that fits me well, will hold its shape, comes to the waist, has either long or 3/4 sleeves, and is not acrylic....well today I even went into cheapie stores willing to settle for anything...but alas, there were none to be found.
I did find this little red jackety thing on sale for $16 that I was tempted by...
While it wasn't the bright cherry red I was imagining, nor was it a cardigan, I was willing to settle until I looked at the back.  The fabric was pulling from the seam that connects the sleeve to the body - it was to thin it was threadbare.  I thought if this jacket can't stand up to being tried on a few times in the store I don't want it in my wardrobe.  My convictions in waiting for quality returned and I put it back.

When I arrived home hubby and I checked the mail box and lo and behold - it was the red scarf I bought on ebay last week!  I got some red today after all!

When I opened my little envelope hubby asked what it was.  When I said "my scarf" he gave me that oh, you spent money on something you didn't need again but then I offered to let him wear it as a pocket square anytime he wanted.  Problem solved :)
This is my first designer scarf purchase.
And I got it for a song!
It's 100% silk, hand rolled edges, and made in Italy.

I plan on using this small square to brighten up my all black outfits at work!
Nothing helps brighten up your face like a flattering colour around your neck - rich reds & fuchsias are my go-to colours when I need to give my face a healthy glow.

Here's how I'm wearing it today:

Paired with a perfect black cardigan & birthday earrings!

  1. I'm suddenly wondering if we have the same skin tone? What do you think (being an expert on such things)? I know it's hard to figure out via blog images, but just in the ball park . . . I think I'm just excited to know another person finds reds and fuschias their perk-me-up colors. Plus, you look so ravishing in that red lipstick--and with the scarf, perfect.

    Congratulations on your find!

    1. It is so hard to tell in blogland. I'm fair, but not porcelain doll fair and I do have yellow undertones. I'd say I'm 'neutral cool' - if that makes sense. On the colour wheel purple is opposite yellow so I think that's why I do well in reds and fuchsias with purple/blue undertones.
I can also wear peachy corals, especially when I have red or auburn tones in my hair. My hair is currently in its natural state ;)
My natural lip colour has a berry tone to it - again working with the reds and fuchsias. What is your natural lip colour like?
The red lipstick I have on in this photo is Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet #39 La Sompteuse over the #24 Rouge liner (of which I know you are also a fan).

  2. You look so chic! Have you looked online for a sweater??

  3. Macy's

I don't know if it would work for you, but it is red and on sale. :-)

    1. Good find!! I like it. Usually I HAVE to try things on before I buy, but this looks pretty safe. I'll keep you posted if I order it!

  4. The scarf looks great on you, I have to wear bright colours around my face too (i.e. mostly scarves) since I'm quite pale.

I found a red cardigan at Tall Girl, which will suffice for a bit. Otherwise it is hard finding one!

    1. i need to find a store called Short Girl! Did you look up the above link to Macy's. It's a fun take on a cardigan - and in a really nice red

Quips & Queries all appreciated!
