Nails - Meet the Dream Team!

Just got my mitts on some Seche Vite top coat, I know I'm behind the times.

I decided to test drive it with another new nail product:

Venique Nail Lacquer in Biker Couture

I have to say I'm super impressed with them both.
Let's start at the beginning,

this is my favourite base coat:

Super Base by Mavala.  Mavala is a Swiss line that produces fabulous hand and nail care products.
This applies easily in one thin coat and by the time you're done applying it the first hand is dry enough for colour.  I haven't had any issue with dark colours staining my nails while using this product either.

So, on to Venique Nail Lacquer.  This is my first time using Venique and I'm impressed. The best adjective I can come up with is creamy.  It's dreamily smooth to apply, self levels like nothing I've ever seen and could easily be worn with just 1 coat.  I didn't find it streaky or cloudy at all.  Even though it's creamier than OPI, it doesn't have the thick or goopy texture OPI can have.  I did two coats of it for this manicure, as I usually do.

Then I applied another product new to me, the afore mentioned Seche Vite Top Coat.  A.MAZ.ING!
Seche Vite is french for quick dry and is that ever true. And I'm talking cured, dry all the way through, none of this 'dry to the touch' nonsense.  I applied it as directed, letting a bead of product form on the brush and then sweeping that generous coat over my nails.  I didn't wait after applying the colour and it didn't smear or streak my nails at all.  It advises that you need 2 minutes for it to completely dry all layers of polish.  I have to say I was really impressed. I've painted my nails, let them dry for over an hour and still smudged them on something or woken up with sheet marks in them more times than I can say.  I'm telling you Seche Vite will not let that happen.  I'm amazed and I'm converted.

My one word of caution if you're thinking about trying it is the smell.  I've never smelled a stronger, more 'nail polish chemicals' smell in my life.  If you have sensitivities to strong smells or prefer not to use strong smelling chemicals I would avoid.  And, if you're not put off my strong smelling nail products, I would still recommend using in a well ventilated area.

And now, meet the Dream Team

Mavala Super Base + Venique Nail Lacquer + Seche Vite = Manicure Dream Team

I love the colour; my nails have great, glossy shine; and they feel as smooth as glass.
Easy to apply and a fast, perfect finish...what more could one ask for?

  2. Great review, your nails looks great! There is nothing worse than thinking you're scot-free and good to go, nails are dry after waiting for 1/2 hour, hour etc........then SMUDGE! It's over. lol

  3. I soak up everything you say and write. I know. I don't know what comes over me!

Your nails look spectacular! See? I can't believe I just said that! But they do look A.MAZ.ING.

That top coat miracle-worker looks fantastic. I wonder if it's in Australia? And that Venique Biker Couture? Give it to your mother so she can paint that dresser. Love it!

    1. I'm sure there already is nail polish on that dresser, lol. But, I will be sure to advise her that Biker Couture is THE colour.

  4. Your nails look perfect! Can you recommend anything to prevent chipping? I polish my nails and two day later (if I'm lucky it's that long) they are chipping. It kind of drives me crazy.

  5. thanks FringeGirl! OPI makes a product called 'chip skip'. you apply it to the top half of your nail and then apply your base, colour, and top as usual. I haven't used it, but we have clients at work who really like it.

I usually put a swipe of top coat across the top edge of my nails to help the polish last longer. And, every other day you can do another layer of clear top coat.

Make sure the nails themselves aren't chipped. I file mine down fairly regularly so they are shorter, but stronger and therefore manicures last better.

  6. I bite my nails. Not always, only on days when I'm really nervous, but I do. They don't look terrible but they are always short and I have large and fat fingers...so nail polish with is not transparent look awful. I always admire people with wonderful nails like yours.
