busy bee

This week has been super busy for me!
At work we are excitedly planning a big event for the launch of a new CHANEL lipstick, Rouge Coco Shine so every spare minute has been filled with designing posters and ads as well as calling clients, friends, etc. to come and participate.  We've dreamed up a fun contest for our clients and everything!  Should be fun, but I'll be happy when things quiet down again.

Speaking of CHANEL, has anyone else seen this little french docomentary series called "Signe CHANEL" that airs on Fashion Television?  I find it so interesting.
Here's a clip from the 1st episode:

I would love to aprentice to be a 'petite mains' at a couture fashion house.  Or, study milnary and make fancy hats and feather whatsies.  Maybe in my next life...

In other news, I'm excited to be going away with a friend this weekend!  We're taking a road trip to see a concert!  I'll be sure to fill you in with all the exciting details!

Learning Shapes

Based on this chart, which face shape do you have?

Hubby & I have decided I'm a rectangle.

I've recently started wearing glasses again (no I didn't switch to contacts...I just didn't wear anything) and  the ones I have are old, scratched and slightly bent.  I'm thinking of getting a new pair, but I'm unsure what style to try.  This got me thinking about what styles would flatter my face and for that matter, what exactly is my face shape?

Do you wear glasses?
Did you just try them on until you find a pair you liked, or research a little first?

One website gave me this definition of a rectangular face shape:

"Your face shape is obviously longer than it is wide with a square jaw-line. You may also have a square hairline" and went on to gave me these suggestions.

The best glasses for your face shape are...
  • Frames with depth as well as width
  • Frames slightly wider than your face
  • Frames with curves rather than sharp angles
  • Contrasting color or decoration at the temple
  • If your nose is long, a low bridge

They also said Sandra Bullock shares my facial shape (I'm in good company!)

Unfortunately there aren't really any photos of Sandy wearing glasses for me to draw any inspiration from. Pity.

so, I found this nifty site: frames direct where you can upload a pic of yourself and do a virtual try on.  It's a fun tool to play with if you have some spare time or are procrastinating something else :)  I was surprised by what I liked.  I wish I could have saved a version of the pic with my glasses though.

This are the style I (and hubby, shockingly enough) really liked:
If they're good enough for Demi they're good enough for me.  And, look at that jawline! I think she's a rectangle too.

Weekend Update

Exciting news:  the first signs of spring have arrived!
my tulips a peeking!

Hubby & I cleaned out a spare room full of junk and found all kinds of things we had forgotten about.  Hubby found some artwork from high school, a 1985 Equestrian Manual, and an Aqua cassette tape (the one with Barbie Girl) while I found a whole box of shoes & sandals that I thought I had lost years ago!
Also, I found my limited edition MAC Barbie.
Can you believe I forgot all about it?!
She's got black nail polish, over the knee boots and is carrying a big MAC make-up case!
It's never even been out of the box!

We threw out a bunch of junk, took a car full of boxes for recycling and then dropped off some bags and boxes of clothing, bedding dishes, books, etc. to a local non-profit charity.

Saturday night we had youth group as per usual where I played an unusually challenging game of Scrabble.  I had all vowels, including  4 "i"s  for like 4 turns!  I finally had to give up a turn just to get all new didn't get much better.

Sunday after church my fam & I went to a good friend's house for a fabulous lunch and coffee
(they roast their own beans!)

Then later that afternoon we had a good ol' fashioned burning party!
we burnt a few big piles of bush and debris

and some of the dead grass off the field.

It's always fun to have a good ol' fashioned burning party!

I Don't Know

Last week I listened to a song I hadn't heard in a while and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since.  With all the madness going on in the world I think this song speaks volumes.
What do you think?

lyrics to Lord (I Don't Know) by Newsboys

You are the author of knowledge
You can redeem what's been done
You hold the present and all that's to come
Until your everlasting kingdom

Lord, I don't know where all this is going
Or how it all works out
Lead me to peace that is past understanding

A peace beyond all doubt

You are the God of tomorrow
Turning the darkness to dawn
Lifting the hopeless with hope to go on
You are the rock of all salvation

Lord, I don't know where all this is going
Or how it all works out
Lead me to peace that is past understanding
A peace beyond all doubt

Oh, Lord, you are the author
Redeeming what's been done
You hold us in the present
And all that is to come

Lord, we don't know where all this is going
Or how it all works out
Lead us to peace that is past understanding
A peace beyond all doubt

Shoe Wardrobe - the dream list

I'm dreaming big people.  This is my dream list of shoes that I would love to find in my closet tomorrow.
Unfortunately these are all around $100 each and my shoe budget at the moment might cover one new pair.  Sigh.

I have a very uncomfortable callus thingy on my baby toe and almost none (I repeat NONE) of my shoes fits comfortably!  It's very traumatizing!  I'm not going to buy any new shoes until I see a podiatrist, but in the meantime I can dream plan, can't I?

A flat nude sandal - great for summer dressing and even for work!

hush puppies

A fun black sandal that will work equally well with pants or dresses.

Classic black pump - no explaination needed

hush puppies

A black dressy flip flop - great for work in the summer!

A nude heel (that I can actually walk in)
nine west

A fun coloured flat.
hush puppies

I tried these on today and fell in love!  The inside is so soft and cushy it's like you're walking on air! When my income tax return comes in these babies are mine...
but what colour? red or black?

Casual Comfort

Clarks in black

birkenstocks in mocha

What shoes could you not live without?
Do you have a brand you swear by?
What's your must have shoe this spring/summer?

Happy St. Paddy's Day

I broke out my lime green skirt today.
I've worn it for the last 2 or 3 St. Patrick's Days.
It makes me happy.

I also Irished up my manicure and wore OPI 'Jade Is The New Black'.

Did you wear green today?

The Brows Post

A reader has asked me a few times what I do to groom my brows.  Basically every time I wash my face I check out my brows and see if they need tweaking.  I maintain them pretty much daily so that I'm never back to square one trying to determine the basic shape.
If you are at square one now, go have your brows shaped by a professional and then maintain the shape at home.

Here's my routine:

 These are my tools
small cuticle scissors, spoolie brush and angled brow brush from MAC, tweezerman tweezers, brow powder duo from MAC.

The first thing I do is bush my brows with the spoolie brush, a clean mascara wand will do too.

I check to see what hairs are sticking out beyond the brow itself.
I trim the lower ones free hand
And use my spoolie brush as a guide for the top

Then I tweeze out any strays, both below and above my brow.
I love my tweezerman tweezers because I can be precise and they're not so sharp that they break the hair.

Then I use the brow powder to fill in my brow.  I use a stiff angle brush in short, little strokes in the same direction as the hair growth.

Et Voila! Finished brows

And they fit the brow rules!
These lines mark where brows should start, arch, and end.
Mine aren't quite long enough to satisfy the formula, but I think close enough.

Everyone's brows are different and unsymmetrical, the famous line is
"make them look like sisters, not twins"

and, if you mess them up, there's always bangs!
swoopy side bang if you can only get one brow looking fab
pull a Sandra if they need some major renovating

Here are a few celeb brow makeovers to inspire you.

I like how Denise Richards' brows still look full in the second picture, and I think the more defined shape suits her better.

Drew Barrymore is wearing her brows thicker and more natural these days; I like it.

From very gamine and thick brows to full and polished.

I prefer the soft arch on JLO to high arch.

Madonna's brows were as wild as her persona.  Now they are much more tame, but her daughter may be following her wild footsteps.

A little stiff

I hung my wet bath mat over the railing of the deck earlier today and just now went to bring it in.
It's frozen!
Here it is standing on end.  You can see the corners from where it hung over the wooden rail.
Too funny.

That's Canada for ya, eh?

Gone To The Dogs

K, every time I see Pedigree dog food commercials I think to myself "I think that's David Duchovny's voice" or "I'm sure that's David Duchovny's voice".  Tonight I finally googled it.  These are the big issues people - what celebs are voicing what commercials.   Watch and listen:

Yes, several google searches confirm that it is, in fact, David Duchovny.  Whew, so glad that's been solved.
Now we can all sing the David Duchovny song!

Please excuse the video quality, it's the best I could find on youtube.

Yesterday was my 27th birthday.

This is what Ms. Hepburn was doing when she was 27:

Still from Funny Face.  Isn't she just lovely?

I am officially thisclose to 30.  Strangely turning 26 was harder;  I think it was the initial realization that I was now over 25. Turning 25 was bad enough; I litteraly moved into a new age bracket!  In surveys I was no longer 18 - 24, I had to move up to the next one, so unsettling.

Anyway, yesterday was delightful.  I posted the make-up video that I had filmed Thursday night and in doing so have preserved my 26 year old self in blogland and youtube forever.

My hubby surprised my first thing in the morning with lovely earrings that match a bracelet my father gave my this past Christmas.
I love them and wore them (with the bracelet) all day yesterday.

Hubby made me breakfast and then we drove in to work together.

I ran into friends unexpectedly while on my lunch break.

It was quiet at work so I got to leave early and enjoy an impromtu hair appointment (is anything better than having your hair washed & scalp massaged by a professional?)

Hubby and I met for supper at what is fast becomming my favourite place to eat that I can't afford.  It was a nice treat (and I had a gift certificate!).

 newly Vegan Mother look away:
Yes it's just a burger joint but when they say Gourmet they mean it! A burger, fries & drink at this place for 2 people costs over $35.00.

Then we went to Blockbuster to see what previously viewed movies they had for sale so we could enjoy a quiet night in.
I found Pirate Radio for $6.99!
I've been wanting to see it for months so I scooped it up right away!

We stopped in a little mom & pop resaurant down the street from Bbuster and bought 2 pieces of the best cheesecake in a 100 mile radius to take home with us for our movie watching.

We plopped on the couch and watched the movie, ate cheesecake and shared a coffee.  Everything was wonderful!  The movie was hilarious (in that Brittish humour sort of way) but if you are not a fan of classic 60s rock or don't have a love for movies that captures the 60s free living life maybe it's not for you.  If however, Almost Famous is anywhere on your top 10 list, do not hesitate to watch this film!  Source it immediately.

All in all a lovely day.  Thanks for all the birthday wishes.  The fun continues Sunday when I have a little family get together at my parent's house.
