The Oscars - My Version

And the nominees for...

  Biggest Earrings are:
Gwyneth Paltrow.  Her make-up is completely CHANEL.

Mandy Moore, her dress was spectatular.
Marissa Tomei, in a vintage dress she actually bought because it was too valuable for the shop to loan.

Most Disheveled/Unflattering Hair:
Jeremy Renner & Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

Such unflattering hair, it's a shame because she looked lovely, her dress was beautiful.

Nicole Kidman (in Christian Dior) Those bangs drove me nuts all night!

Scariest Looking Attendee:
Cruella DeVille....opps, sorry, it's Sharon Stone, honest mistake

Most In Need of Lipstick:
Kate Blanchette in Givenchy
Hilary Swank

Unfortunate Usage of Lace:
Florence Welch (Florence & The Machine) in Valentino
Scar Jo in her harpsichord cover by Dolce & Gabbana

Mila Kunis in Ellie Saab, not a fan of the lace pasties, but she looked good.

Best Red Carpet Couple:
Javier Bardem & Penelope Cruz in L'wren Scott
Matthew McConaughey & Camila Alves

The only Tim Burton & Helena Bonham Carter
Armie Hammer & Elizabeth Chambers

Livia & Colin Firth.  Livia's dress was by Gary Harvey & made from other recycled dresses.

Most Well Put Together:
Celine Dion in Armani Prive
Amy Addams in L'wren Scott & Choppard jewellery

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa.  I'm overlooking the headband to put her in this category
Michelle Williams in Chanel.  Perfect

Dame Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood.  She's my favourite (living) woman of style.
Natalie Portman in Rodarte.

Cheryl Hines in Johanna Johnson.

Classic Beautiful Make-Up:
Reese Witherspoon in (kinda boring) in Giorgio Armani Prive.
Sandra Bullock.  Chanel make-up.
Michelle Williams. Chanel make-up.
Anne Hathaway.  Chanel make-up.
Had Potential...Didn't Reach It:
The dress grew on me, but the hair killed it.
Halle Berry in Marchesa.  I felt it looked a little messy & I'm normally a fan of tulle!  Her make-up was Chanel & Revlon.

Not feeling Annette Bennings' dress by Tom Ford
Marissa Tomei in Vintage Couture Charles James.
Virgina Madsen in Romona Keveza
Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein.
Rhea Durham in Naeem Khan & Mark Wahlberg

Honourable Mention:
Cate Blanchette in Givenchy...I think I appreciate this dress.
Melissa Leo in Marc Bouwer.  I can't decide if I love it or hate it!

Been There, Done that:
Jennifer Lawerence in Calvin Klein

Scarlett Johansson in Valentino. 2006 Golden Globes

It seems Calvin is even copying himself as Jennifer's dress seems to be just a longer, red version of the white mini dress he designed that Alicia Silverstone wore in Clueless:

Fav Peeps of the Night:
Helena Bonham Carter in a dress by costume designer Colleen Atwood to celebrate film, rather than fashion.

Robert Downey Jr. in Prada. I heart him.  Wife Susan Downey looking very classy.
Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang.

oh Dame Helen, I heart you too!

Peeps I missed seeing:
Julianne Moore
Cher
Tilda Swinton

  1. You're gonna have to put names to some of those youngins I'm so out of it. Yay Colin!

  2. Thank you for the recap! I didn't get to watch it (canceled cable), but I always like seeing the clothes, hair, etc. That's really the only reason I'd watch. I don't give a flip about anything else. Shallow maybe?

Anyway, I enjoyed your post. I'm with your mom though, I need some names, so I'm not totally in the dark.

    Thanks for the fashion show!

  3. I liked Marisa's earrings best, Michelle W's makeup and whole look really and Mia whatshernamefromBlackSwan's dress - that lilac lace number was so feminine and delicate.

My favorite dress of the night was Jennifer Hudson's - I know her boobies were sticking out too much, but the color and style and structure was gorgeous and it looked so great on her new hot bod!

Nicole Kidman looked weird - the hair, the dress - she needs to fire her stylist. Stat.

And I know this is very unpopular, but I love Tim and Helena B-C. They look like they were put on this earth to be together. I always like people who are unafraid to be themselves - wish I was more like that.

  4. Adrienne, I know! I love Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter! They truly are the perfect match for each other. And I always think she looks fabulous because she really owns the look, no matter what, and stays true to herself. I am truly envious of her hair...but I would like to have my way with her eyebrows.

Mum & FringeGirl: names coming soon, and really, I only watch for the clothes and make-up! Oh, and the rediculous red carpet commentators always crack me up!

  5. Wow! I don't watch the Oscars. I don't know anyone.

That was a huge post! You're a harsh critic! I do agree that Dame Helen is gorgeous. I don't like Cate Blanchett much, but I did find her dress the most interesting and I love her hair!

How do you know what makeup everyone's wearing?

  6. Yes, I can be harsh, but sometimes if just has to be said. If you knew my father you'd understand, lol.
I was surprised how easy it was to find out what people were wearing for make-up! There's a lot of blogs out there with the info.
The only make-up I knew for sure while watching was that Sandra Bullocks lips were Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in #19 Gabrielle and that Michelle William's whole face had to be. Glad/relieved to be proven right.
Yes, Cate's dress is definitely the most interesting. I think only she could pull it off. Speaking of Cate, where was Kate Winslet...just realized that I don't think she was there, I like seeing what she wears, she's always so stylish.

  7. I love that young girl's dress. I wanted a wedding dress that length and nobody knew what I was talking about. I'm waaaay ahead of my time.

  8. Audrey Hepburn's wedding dress was tea-length, you can never go wrong to follow Audrey's lead. I think that would have been cute on you. I thought about going short and I also thought about getting married later in the year just so I could have a long sleeved dress....I'll have to have a big vow renewal ceremony...maybe 3...

  9. I really think Dame Helen Mirren looked beautiful. I don't know who she is, but to me she looks perfect for a little bit older woman.

Thanks for taking the time to give us all the details. I'll send you an email later and tell you my scarf secrets.

  10. FringeGirl, did you see Calendar Girls? That movie about the older ladies who make a nude calendar as a fundraiser? She was the lead character in that, but she has also done a huge amount of British films.
Can't wait for the scarf scoop.
