Halloween 2010

Last night by boss's daughter had a halloween party! It was a good night of fun costumes and good munchies!

getting ready, this is the before.

and this is the finished costume!
A statue coming to life.

This is my boss as Alice.  She's wearing her mother's wedding dress!

This is my boss's daughter, our hostess for the evening.

This is my boss's hubby, he's the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland.

my hubby is the guy in the background.  He was 'the hiker that didn't make it'.  His face and hands looked all frozen.   Our nephew (4 yrs)  came over before we went to the party and said "it looked like him but I wasn't sure it was, I was scared a little bit".

Happy Halloween!

pink pumpkin lady

At work today a lady from another store in the mall called me with a very strange request.
She had a little pumpkin that she wanted me to draw a pink lady face on.  I asked her if she had paint or markers and she replied with "well, I thought you could use nail polish".  sure, why not.
So her husband brought me down a pumpkin and I got to work.
I drew eyes and lips on with Chanel lip pencil #25 Pink Sugar.
Then I painted her in with a few different Chanel and OPI polishes.
The white polish is an OPI that glows in the dark!

And here she is all finished and happy to be in her new home.

Probably the weirdest, but definitely one of the most fun make-up requests I've had in a while.

I'm watching the "Lost JKF Tapes: The Assassination."
Do you know what strikes me most?  How sincere the reporters and newsmen were.
There is such a wholesomeness and respect for the situation.  No cynicism or sensationalism.
Watch any news network now and see if you can find any hint or emotion or respect for the people or situations being reported on.  It's all about ratings.  Info-tainment.  *sigh*

new hair

I finally got the new wig I ordered from eBay yesterday!  It's actually a wig enhancer.  Think of those at home highlighting caps.  It has a bunch of holes and you pick your own hair through it to blend it in.
I'm realizing it's not a quick and easy task...and when I tried last night my hair was HUGE!  I felt like the Nanny or something.  But, I pulled it  back into a clip and it made all the difference.  It looks really natural up, which is something I can't say about my other wigs.

I also discovered that it's very hard to take off....maybe next time I'll try and sleep in it and see what happens!

Long Overdue

I decided it was time to print our wedding photos and actually make a wedding album.  We've been married just over 3 years, so I think it's time.

While I was organizing the 40th anniversary party of my in-laws I went looking through their wedding album and it made me want my own.  His mum kept everything!  She even has the receipt for their wedding invitations (75 invites and reply cards cost $33.00 in 1970)!

So, I bought a brand new ink cartridge for my old hp photosmart and went to town!  In 2 days I have burned through said cartridge!
Hubby  says that's enough printing.

Now I'm off to organize and label all the pictures into my new wedding album!

The stars we could reach were just starfish on the beach

This week has made me very thankful for the parents that I have, the God who steered them in raising me and who steers me today, and my husband.

I've been watching a situation in another family unfold and I'm continually baffled that people seem to be able to float around in a dream world, leaving stress and chaos in an ugly trail behind them.  I will be the first to admit that I can get caught up 'in the moment' of things, or have selfish moments, we all can, but I try to balance everything with where I know my heart should be.  Not always easy.

I think sometimes we need to be content with the starfish on the beach, to find peace in the place God has put us.  Example: Right now hubby and I are living in a shoebox.  It's a tiny apartment, but it's close to our families, we can babysit our nephew easily, the rent is cheap and it goes to the family.  In someways it's perfect and hubby and I both feel it's where we are supposed to be now.  We don't have the money to build on our land, so we are learning to be content here.  It's a battle some days.  There's no place to put things, no room for a dishwasher ( I die) and blah, blah, blah....but, if all I do is focus on those negatives and complain I'll be depressed every time I come home.  And that dissatisfaction is just going to carry over to other aspects of my life.  I find that the more one struggles to do what one wants against the reality of the situation the more unhappy one is.   Life becomes a constant battle to prove oneself...what's the fun in that?!  So, I choose to be content.  Yup, I do believe it's a choice I can make.  That simple, just not that easy.  I have to make that choice every day.

Oh, I wish we could all relax, stop blindly focusing on ourselves and just trust God....if I believe He made the whole universe, I should be able to believe He'll get me through my day, right?

I digress.

What are you thankful for in your life?  What encourages you?

New Blog

I've started a new blog! Check it out here!
It's a photo-diary.  I'm committing to taking at least 1 picture a day and posting it.  Making a sort of virtual photo album.  I will post a random photo from each day, sharing the context (for you and my own memory!) and we will see how diligent I am at taking a 'what i wore' photo everyday as well.  I think it will be amusing in a time capsule way, I can look back and see what I was wearing, months, years? from now.
Check it out, comment, follow, all that good blog-y stuff.

I'm so glad it's Wednesday night already.
I've had a long week.
It was good, I'm not complaining, I'm just tired and can't wait until I can sleep in on Saturday.

Sunday was the 40th Anniversary Party for hubby's parents.

Monday was hubby's birthday

 AND Thanksgiving.

I spent half the day helping a friend glue pew markers and wedding favours together for her neice and the other half cooking and eating!

Tuesday...was yesterday

Today I worked all day and then got groceries and enjoyed being able to still eat left-overs from the anniversary party and thanksgiving.  Also, still typing my father-in-law's book.  It's interesting and I'm happy to help him, but it takes a long time and my back always starts to ache from sitting at the computer for so long.  I can't find a comfortable way to read from his manuscript and type it in the computer.  The goal is to get this done by Christmas.

I'm still waiting for my latest eBay purchase!  I have another hair piece on the way!  I'm getting very impatient.  So is the seller, I got an eBay message from him/her today asking my if I could please leave feedback so they could close the item, and I had to reply that I would love to receive feedback, but I need the item first!  Maybe because Monday was a holiday here things got held up?

Also today, read the new post from Hyperbole and a Half and laughed so hard I cried.  If you need a laugh, have a look.

Tomorrow's Thursday...stay tuned and see if I got my butt to the gym...I've been seriously slacking lately and I seriously need to lose some pounds...ugh.
Almost Friday, we can make it people!  I know we can!

oh, my life

I think I'm losing my mind, like in that early alzheimers loosing my mind kinda way.  For real.

The other week while over at my parent's for their weekly waffle night I found myself pouring water in the pitcher of custard, instead of my glass!!  Scary.
And today, the latest issue of our weekly community paper came out with the anniversary announcement I put in to celebrate my in-law's 40th wedding anniversary....with the wrong date!!!  I called up the paper and then realized that I emailed them the wrong date!!  I made an open invitation to the community to come on the wrong day!
Now next Wednesday between 2 - 4pm a bunch of seniors are going to show up at a community hall for what they think is an anniversary party with free food and instead be intruding on a 'Mom's & Tots' session or some such thing.
It will not be pretty.

I decided to pack away my summer clothes and shoes and bring out the sweaters.  It's a task I enjoy because I forget about the stuff that I pack away and store in the garage,  so as I'm rummaging around through big bins it's like shopping all over again!
Here's to being able to enjoy cozy sweaters again.

Happy Fall everyone!
