I'm in Love...

...with Louis Vuitton's Fall/Winter 2010 collection.  Marc Jacobs I heart you... I don't dig the giant bows on all the shoes...but I heart you none the less.

I realize that I am a little late in commenting on this as photos from the collection have been out for over a month now, but I just saw the full runway show tonight and it was 'swoony' (totally stole that from Flower Patch Farm Girl )

I love anything with a 1950s feel... and when you made a tea-length a-line skirt out of black leather I am a fan!
Have a look at the full collection here at style.com and some my favourite pieces below:

Shoe organizing and other fun things!

First of all:
I bought some new shelves to store the footwear in our house.

Behold:
Oh how organized my front hallway looks!

sigh
in other news...I gave up on trying to post pics from my mac (for now), so I'm back on my dell.  It's slow, but I know how to use it.  So, here are the pictures of my crazy British tights a friend brought me back from her UK vacation (referenced here ):

don't they look like vintage movie posters or advertisments?
I'm thinking in the fall I'll wear them with a black dress and black boots.
What do you think FringeGirl...weird, eh?

AND...
my mom won a blog giveaway (you'll have to ask her whose blog it was) and she gave me her tres fab prize:

I think this is so beautiful.

Now I'm on a mission to find gold earrings...I only wear silver normally, but I did manage to find these taupey brown pearl studs in my jewellery box to wear in the mean time.
*hint hint to Dad: I need gold earrings that are feather hair piece appropriate**

Mark Fast Normal vs. Minnie

So, I feel like I am letting women world wide down when I say that I saw (Canadian) designer Mark Fast's fall/winter 2010 show tonight...and didn't like the use of large (aka normal) models.  I surprised myself...and then I realized, it's not the models....it's the clothes!  I want to support Canadian designers as much as I want to support regular sized women on runways, but these clothes looked poor on even the stick skinny models.  None of them could walk properly in their giant shoes, so their posture was awful and gave this weird stick out my belly so I look pregnant look.  And, coloured tights were featured (yay) but most of the models had lumps and bumps where you can tell the waist of the tights ends. Proper undergarments people!  All in all, this seemed like a really poor production.
I feel that I must clarify at this point that:
  1. I do not have the money to buy this man's designer clothing
  2. I do not have any personal experience producing runway shows
  3. I have not had personal success in neither design nor sewing garments

I would love for you to judge this collection for yourself.

New Tights

My friend P just came back from a UK vacation.  We finally had a chance to catch up and she told me all about her yummy food, copious amounts of sheep, and very friendly puffins!
She brought me back the coolest and weirdest tights ever!
They are opaque and covered in what appears to be vintage movie posters in a language I cannot identify.
I have no idea what I'm going to wear them with, but I am determined to find a way.

In other news, my dog has been chewing her little front paw raw.  I put polysporin on it and then wrapped it in a piece of a bandana.  She seems to be tolerating it....I stand corrected....she just jumped up on the couch sans bandana....

*k, I feel like a moron, but I just got a new computer and I have no idea how to post pictures anymore.  It says I need to open some file and I have no idea where that file may be.... ugh, I will get it figured out eventually.

Rocket Dog Unbreaks My Heart

I am happy to report that Rocket Dog did send me new shoes in the end.  As I mentioned in a previous post, they offered me a credit for the sale price of my sandals, but they weren't on sale online.  So, I found a pair of shoes that were on sale.  They nicely waived the shipping fee to Canada for me and my shoes arrived about 2 days ago!

I chose these little flats because A: they were on sale and B: they are perfect to wear to work and will go with any outfit. They fit perfectly and are comfortable.  I wore them to work all day and had no problems, but I did add an insole for day two because I stand on a hard floor all day and these don't have much support or cushion. But, that's kinda the nature of flats.  I wear Dr. Scholl's insoles in most of my shoes.  Everything is just more comfy that way!

After the previous shoe trauma I am willing to give Rocket Dog another chance.  Just be warned it's kind of a long saga if you're unsatisfied with the quality of your shoes & need to return or replace something.

Today's Surprise

I called my husband from work today:

me: I got a present today
him: oh? what?
me: guess
him: oh I don't know
me: it's from H. (works near me, in a clothing store)
him: oh no, shoes?
me: worse
him: a cupon?
me: a mannequin!!!
him: what?!

H and I were chatting the other day (she frequently comes over to my store on her many 'pee breaks' through out the day) and she was saying that she bought two fabulous Marilyn Monroe replica dresses on ebay.  I asked her if she wore them and she said no, they're on display in her dressing room (I wish) on two mannequins that her store was getting rid of.  I thought that was fabulous.  I told her that I had always wanted a dressmaker's dummy.  I think they look cool, and I would totally use it to make clothes for myself, but also to display outfits and try different looks (if I only had my own dressing room too!).

Anyway, doesn't she walk over to the store today with a manniquin tucked under her arm!
It's headless, armless and legless, lol. She said that if she finds some extra legs in storage she'll bring them over too.  I'm going to pad it and cover it in fabric...when I have a place to put it.  Right now it's going to live beside my Chanel make-up stand in my parents storage barn....waiting for the day when I do have a dressing room.

Shout Out

I have use this product at least 3 times so far this week...and on white shirts every time!
So far it has not let me down.
It has taken out coffee repeatedly and also ketchup!

I have no idea why I'm so clumsy this week, I hope it does not continue.

a riveting post, I know.

shopping ban

Yesterday I decided to live under a self-imposed shopping ban for the month of July.

I did really well until about 7pm.
My sis-in-law and I decided to go out after work, which meant go to the mall, which meant shop.  I thought I could hold out.  I thought "I don't need anything, I'll be fine".  Then I thought "I can try a few things on, just for fun"...deep in my heart of hearts I knew it wasn't true.  Turns out my heart of hearts knows a thing or two.
So, after a small stumbing block of:
  • 2 camisoles (on sale)
  • 2 necklaces (on sale, buy one get one free!)
  • eyeglass frames (only $5 and a great way to disguise under eye puffiness)
  • head band with tulle bow thingy (full price *shudder*)
  • white blouse (not on sale, but I have a 10% discount card & it came with free belt!)
  • bra (only $14 and a necessity...I count all 'foundation garments' as a necessity and therefore are always exempt from any and all measures of thrift)
  • lovely 'anthropolgie-esque' t-shirt
  • black skirt (it's long, and today I'm wearing it to work as a dress, so it's very practical)
Whew! Now I'm ready to re-instate the ban.
My only problem will arise when above mentioned sis-in-law and I go out together Monday.  We're heading to the La Senza outlet, but as I said, foundation garments are exempt...the real trouble lies in the possibility of finding nude shoes.

I have been thinking about finding either a beigey nude low heeled pump for a while now...if I find any like these I think it's going to be hard to resist:

early inheritance

My parents gave me a painting today!

It's one that I remember them having my whole life.  Until today its newest home had been on the wall above my parent's stairs.  I had to take it down to make room for us to bring a new mattress up the stairs and thought "hmmm...I love this painting....it's the right colours for my appartment...and it's the perfect size for the big empty wall above my couch..."
So I asked them if I could take it home.  Mum seemed very ready to part with it and dad agreed without too much convincing.  My dad's brother painted it, so I'm extra happy that I've inherited a family heirloom.
See it below in all its glory above my couch.

According to my dad, my uncle had originally painted a moose in the lake, then decided to paint it out.  When his brother* saw the revised painting he asked "where's the moose?!" and my uncle replied "It just came out for a drink.  It's back in the woods now".  I love art that tells a story ;)

*I know that any other brother to my father would also be my uncle, but I felt the above telling keeps it from being confusing...go with it.
